The brand of die-cast cars became one of the most popular toys of all time, and in 1983, McDonald’s decided to jump on that bandwagon and release a set of 14 Hot Wheels cars in their Happy Meals.Ī few decades later, each one of the 14 toy cars is now worth around $40. Spring forward a few decades, and some of those toys are worth a fortune! There’s no doubt that McDonald’s knew exactly what they were doing when they decided to include toys inside their Happy Meals. We’ll look at the history of the free and cheap toys distributed by McDonald’s that are worth a lot more money today.Ah, the Happy Meal! Boy, did I love those! The collectors to get all of the toys in a set or find a rare toy have saved them and are making good profits off of it today. The mysterious toy in each box meant it was difficult to get all of the toys in the set unless you kept purchasing more meals. McDonald’s wisely would have various sets of multiple toys to make their limited edition toys more important. Through the years or even as long as decades, many of these toys have grown in value. Many of the toys were in association with movies, television shows, video games and other popular brands among kids to make it even more appealing. A small and fun toy would be guaranteed with every Happy Meal box. Most of the toys weren’t overly complicated or pricy but that was the point. The idea of getting a toy along with a lunch made the idea become an instant success and it has lasted decades. The Happy Meal consisted of a burger or chicken nuggets along with French fries, a drink and the most important aspect of the box – a toy. It became a game changer in the fast food industry and appealed to children all over the world. McDonald’s understood this and created the concept of a Happy Meal. The fun items used to provide entertainment and amusement are sometimes too expensive for parents to afford. Between starting to understand the world and getting used to the process of school, getting a new toy every now and then is the perfect necessity to make life less confusing. Maybe I am becoming more lenient in my old age and will enjoy it more. and his education, I thought it boring and bad soap opera compared to Teen Titans which was better soap opera. I just didn't want to read about Robin 2.0. I can remember that back then I hated Moench's Bat run. It will be interesting to see how Newton will handle the rest of the tale. Maybe they pretended it was Bruce Lee, who knows :-) Of course the moody artwork woke Moench's purple prose, not always a good thing. And I marvel that editorial waved the Shang-Chi poster through. From the "the specter of the bat is less imposing by daylight", which made me grin because I had exactly the same thought a page before with Bats in the hospital looking so out of place to "perhaps I made a mistake then" regarding to Dick. I was surprised how level-headed the characterisation was. The plot didn't work for me, it is kind of hard to believe that the Batman couldn't wipe the floor with the generic "Skull". Bring me back to 2019 Comment by Wissem DAASSI As they manage to survive on the island their relationship develops. They are stuck on the island and they have no choice but to work together in order to survive. There is a big storm one night and Emma and Dean end up stranded on a deserted island, alone but together. Emma and Dean are worlds apart before departure but this life changing trip makes their lives take a completely new turn, something that they never had imagined possible. Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent, Blue Lagoon: The Awakening) has scored the lead role in the film adaptation of Lois Lowrys 1993 childrens. Dean is your typical bad boy, who is sent on the trip to make extra credit so he can graduate high school. Emma is your 'good girl next door' type of girl, but she has a crush on a cute boy which makes her break the rules for once in her life and that fatal decision will carry on to change her life forever. The male lead from the 1980 film, Christopher Atkins, appears in this film as one of the teachers on the shipborne field trip where Emma and Dean are lost at sea and end up on an island. Emma and Dean are two ordinary teenagers who travel with their school to Trinidad for a charity project. Called Blue Lagoon: The Awakening, it depicts two contemporary teenagers (played by Indiana Evans (Emmaline Robinson) and Brenton Thwaites (Dean McCullen). Blue Lagoon is a classic love story about two young adults who fall in love despite all obstacles. In practice, this is rarely a problem, but this rolloff is probably at least partially to blame for the ‘warming’ characteristic credited to the unit. The only drawback that might be levelled (doh!) at the LA-2A is its lack of ultra high frequency response – it tails off at around 15kHz. Things really do seem bigger and warmer, grander and genuine, without any unnatural or fatiguing hype. There is a masterful feel to the way they smooth a signal. With no attack or release adjustments, they are wonderfully quick to set up, and work particularly well with bass guitar, vocals, and anything you want tamed without drama. I love LA-2As, they make fantastic general purpose compressors. Furthermore, one can stereo link the channels here, so to that end the T4 optical modules are matched for a stable image. Yes, the circuitry layout is arranged differently from a mono LA-2A, but UA are at pains to point out that this is indeed the same circuitry and the same sound as an original unit. But apart from space saving, there is the more immediate concern of cost saving. So naturally, the recommendation is that one must leave 1U free above, and if possible 1U ventilation below the space saving benefits are almost gone before we’ve started. The VU meters glow in a nice aged looking yellow illumination, and although smaller than those found on LA-2As, are big enough - roughly the same width as those on an 1176, if a little shallower.Ĭramming all the circuitry into 2U results in the first piece of advice printed on a separate alert sheet: “Your 2-LA-2 Gets Hot!!!” They are not joking, it does get fairly warm, and there are vents in several locations. The etched faceplates look built to last. Bypass removes the gain reduction circuit, but leaves the valve amplification in circuit, so one can use the unit for a little extra gain and tube colouration. Near the centre is a toggle for Dual/Link modes, and there is an overall Bypass toggle – something not included on original and reissue mono units. Each channel includes a Limit/Compress toggle, and a toggle for the meter to switch between Gain Reduction and Output. A large power toggle is accompanied by a lovely old-fashioned purple light. On the front is a thick panel, on which are mounted are large vintage-style knobs for Gain (output) and Peak Reduction – these are undamped but seem perhaps just very slightly stiffer than those encountered on most mono LA-2As. On the rear are quality XLRs for the two inputs and outputs, plus an IEC socket – some internal re-plugging and an alternative fuse is required for operation at 110V. I found that the spaces for the extra T4 and tube components were still present on the circuit board, so perhaps an upgrade or mod might be available one day.īuild quality is as high as one expects from this manufacturer. A hold-up occurred with a planned extra Fast/Slow switch to incorporate an optional Fast mode, using another pair of T4 optical cells.ĭespite promo photos of units with the extra switches, and a movie including this feature on the DVD that came in the box, the final product omits this feature due to difficulty in obtaining the necessary components from the supplier. Perhaps one might have expected the launch of the 2-LA-2 sooner, but it has been lovingly fashioned by original UREI engineer Dennis Fink, who was presumably busy beforehand getting the LA-3A reissue in order. They stopped making originals in 1969, but when Putnam’s sons formed the new Universal Audio company, the LA-2A was one of their first reissues. It was designed not by Bill Putnam, but by Jim Lawrence of Teletronix in Pasadena, California, before eventually being acquired by Bill Putnam’s company in 1967, which then became UREI. The original LA-2A “Levelling Amplifier” was introduced in the early 1960’s. Perhaps even more impressive is the pricing – roughly just 25% more than a mono reissue LA-2A. However, if you’ve ever peered round the back of an LA-2A you’ll know its case is extremely shallow, with just a few larger components sticking out of the rear. This might seem even more impressive – packing 6U of circuitry into 2U. And UA have performed another magician’s trick with the LA-2A. Previously, the 2-1176 packed a pair of mono 1176s into the space usually occupied by just one of them. The machine seems well built it has a solid feel and good tolerances on the joints and such. The HP logo is small and in lower case italics.pretty cool. It's 1.32" thick and has a nice black grill across the entire front. While the Dv4000 isn't as sexy looking as an ASUS Z70va or a Sony FS 790, it's no dog either. So, I got the machine I wanted at a great price and so far the tech support has been very good. I have been even more surprised to have received follow up calls to survey my satisfaction. The HP technical support staffers from India have proven to be knowledgeable, helpful, courteous and concerned about customer satisfaction. I have pretty poor hearing (my wife maintains that it's a classic case of gender deafness) and the rampant tales of poor support provided by incomprehensible people from exotic Asian lands was another worry for me.but so far, not a problem. In every instance, HP got on the line quickly, had good answers and went the extra mile with me. I'd heard lots of horror stories about HP's support and I was concerned about how that would go (I'm a long time Gateway om back when they were a better company and gave really good support). Since I've gotten the machine I have called tech support a handful of times and I've been pleasantly surprised. I took the standard no cost shipping option and the machine was delivered to me prior to the time HP had promised it to start the shipping from Kunchan, China. The HP sales representatives were helpful and allowed me to change my mind about my warranty option (actually, cancel the extra time and accidental damage options that I bought in a moment of extreme dumbness). I also don't want to get caught between a reseller and the builder if a warranty issue comes up. They offer free shipping most of the time and in most states you don't pay sales tax. Going directly through HP may not be the only way you can custom configure your notebook but I think it's the best. I bought the machine through HP Shopping I think the only way to go. I just knew I wouldn't find a machine that had the same strong graphics package, the right size and the low cost so I pulled the trigger. and my obsessing over this purchase was getting in the way. You see, there were leaves to rake, boats to put away, yada yada. So after way, way too much research we reached the point where my wife demanded that I choose a machine. ASUS I liked a lot, I almost bought a Chembook 2370Va but the cost and the WSXGA resolution got in the way (I like WXGA just fine). The Sony FS790 caught my eye, again I loved the display and the weight was right, but the 4200 RPM HDD, weak GPU and reputation for poor support held me back. I'd looked at Fujitsu N3500s, great machines with terrific screens but not the strongest GPUs and a bit heavy. Bang for the Buck is a very high value with me. Being a Scot, I have a pronounced affection for retaining my money. I like to play some pretty demanding 3D games and that of course is "where the cheese gets bindin'" as we like to say here in Maine. Besides communication for work and social purposes, we'll use the new notebook for watching DVDs, burning music, digital photography and last, but certainly most demanding, gaming. I'm semi-retired and must connect with my associates here in Maine while I'm away. We live in Maine so "the cold months" means anytime between September and May we want to spend some time the sun and we need a computer to travel with. I bought this machine primarily because my wife and I will be traveling a lot in the cold months. With a 6% academic discount and the $50.00 rebate I ended up paying $1170.11 for my new machine.
